BMS (Battery Management System) is an electronic device designed to control, protect and balance lithium batteries. It monitors the condition of each cell, prevents emergency operation modes and ensures the durability of the battery pack.
Why is a BMS needed?
Lithium batteries are sensitive to overvoltage, deep discharge and high currents. Without proper control, they can fail, lose capacity or even become dangerous. BMS solves these problems:
- protects the battery from short circuit, overcharging, deep discharge and overcurrent;
- equalizes the voltage on individual cells (balancing);
- monitors the temperature of the batteries;
- provides data on the battery status (charge level, voltage, current) via Bluetooth, CAN, RS485 or RS232.
